Wearing respiratory protection may seem inconvenient.  But airborne particles and contaminants – no matter how small – can cause both short-term and long-term health problems.  To protect the health of your workforce, proper use and care of respirators is recommended.

Face masks protect workers in areas with low oxygen, harmful particles, dust, smoke, mist, gases, vapours and sprays.  These hazards can cause cancer, lung impairment, other diseases or death.  Always use respiratory protection when and where required in the workplace.  You should also clean or replace your filters regularly.

Respirators are an important health and safety protection tool, when used properly.  Different masks and filters provide different levels of protection, so it’s important to find the right level of protection for your role.  Filtering half masks fall under three categories, which indicates their efficiency – FFP1, FFP2 and FFP3.  The higher the FFP rating, the more effective the mask is at filtering airborne particles.  These masks may also be marked for single shift use only (NR) or re-usable (R).  The letter (D) indicates the mask has also passed a dolomite clogging test.
