ARC Flash
ARC Flash workwear is designed to protect workers where there is a risk of injury due to electrical explosion, burn and shock. This can occur due to extreme electrical discharges when working with heavy electrical equipment like switchgear and transformers. ARC Flash is an extremely dangerous electrical hazard, so before choosing or providing PPE to your employees, you are required to undertake a risk assessment of the potential hazards they may be exposed to in your workplace. Only after you have calculated the potential incident energy levels can you determine which PPE will be suitable for your needs.
PPE, clothing and workwear offering ARC Flash protection is tested and certified under BS EN 61482-2:2020 (Protective clothing against the thermal hazards of an electric arc). This includes items such as unvented helmets, gloves, eye protection, high-visibility clothing, footwear, and safety harnesses. The protection provided is expressed as a Calorific Value (cal/cm2), according to tests against the above standard. Layering multiple garments together is a very effective method of protection, as it can increase the total arc protective rating higher than the sum of the individual ratings.
